Preparation for Adulthood Weeks
We are committed to building safe, independent lives for our learners. Integral to this are our Preparation for Adulthood Weeks that run once per long term.
Our first PfA Week of this academic year takes place 8th-12th December 2026. This exciting week supports our learners to think about the future so that they can take their next steps with independence and ambition.
Throughout the week, our learners will:
- Meet and talk with employers from a wide range of industries, gaining real insight into the world of work.
- Visit colleges and training providers, exploring different pathways and opportunities for further education.
- Experience different workplaces first-hand, with workplace encounters that build practical skills and confidence.
- Take part in an Apprenticeships Talk (for Year 10 and Year 11), where they’ll learn about the benefits of apprenticeships, how they work and the exciting career routes they can open.
- Learn essential life skills linked to living independently and safely after Springfield- such as travel training, budgeting and managing money.
- Hear from the emergency services: Paramedics, Police and Fire Brigade will deliver engaging talks on safety in the home and community, as well as share their own career journeys and what inspired them to join their professions.
- Develop home and community safety awareness, ensuring our learners feel secure and capable in everyday situations.
- Cook delicious home-cooked meals, building confidence in the kitchen and promoting healthy, independent living.
Every activity is designed to be hands-on, engaging and relevant to life beyond school. From planning journeys and understanding public transport to learning how to manage a household budget, learners will leave the week feeling empowered and ready for the exciting opportunities ahead.
Preparation for Adulthood Week isn’t just about learning- it’s about discovery, independence and building a future full of possibilities.
