ICT and Media

Intent:

"To build safe, independent lives for autistic young people through support, understanding and enablement"

Implementation:

ICT and media at Springfields offer the opportunity to learn and develop both functional and creative skills within the sector, and technology in general. We are lucky enough to have an ICT suite with Apple Macs, digital cameras and video cameras that allow for us to make the subject as practical as possible.

During both the concrete and core pathways we look at skills such as printed journalism, graphic software and creative media which allow for us to explore our creative skills at a more advanced level. These are skills that our pupils will need during their working lives.

Within the challenge pathway we explore a level 2 qualification in Creative Media which provides an introductory set of knowledge and skills, relevant to the creative industries.

Pupils can achieve a range of qualifications dependent on ability. These vary from short AQA Unit Awards in Computing to a Level 2 in Skills in Creative Media.

To support in finding work experience in the sector, we offer some pupils the opportunity to become our ICT support workers within classrooms.

Impact beyond Springfields:

The majority of pupils who access ICT pathway go on to study ICT or Media in their Post 16 placement. We are proud that we have a track record of 0% NEET over the last five years.
