Implementation:
At The Springfields Academy, we are dedicated to empowering our students through practical skills that prepare them for a successful transition into adulthood. Our Construction Pathway offers an engaging curriculum focused on essential trades: bricklaying, painting and decorating, and woodworking. This program is designed to equip students with the skills and confidence needed to pursue a rewarding future.
Our Construction Pathway offers a comprehensive curriculum that encompasses a range of hands-on learning experiences:
- Bricklaying: Students learn fundamental techniques, including laying bricks, building walls, and understanding material properties. Practical projects enhance their skills and confidence in construction tasks.
- Painting and Decorating: This component teaches students the art of surface preparation, paint application, and design principles. They work on projects that foster creativity while developing an eye for detail.
- Woodworking: Students gain hands-on experience using tools and techniques for woodworking. They learn to measure, cut, and assemble wood to create functional and decorative items.
Linked to Preparation for Adulthood
Our Construction Pathway is closely aligned with our preparation for adulthood strategy, focusing on:
- Life Skills Development: In addition to trade skills, students build essential life skills such as time management, teamwork, and problem-solving, which are vital for independent living.
- Workplace Readiness: Through real-world projects and simulated work environments, students gain practical experience that prepares them for future employment in the construction field.

The Construction Pathway prepares students for various careers, including:

- Construction Site Assistant
Impact beyond Springfields:
The majority of pupils who access this pathway go on to study construction in their Post 16 placement. We are proud that we have a track record of 0% NEET over the last six years.
