Implementation:

At The Springfields Academy, we believe that every aspect of our students' education should contribute to their growth and independence. Our catering pathway were created not only to provide the knowledge and skills to produce nutritious meals but also to support our students in their journey toward adulthood. Through our tailored meal options, we aim to enhance life skills, promote healthy eating habits, and encourage social interaction. We understand that developing practical life skills is crucial for our students’ future independence.

Our catering pathway offers:

• Cooking Classes: Students participate in hands-on cooking sessions that teach essential culinary skills, from meal planning to food preparation.
• Grocery Shopping Experience: We organise trips to local shops, helping students learn how to choose healthy ingredients, manage budgets, and understand nutritional labels.

We are proud to offer structured work experience placements in collaboration with local businesses within our community. Students can:

• Shadow Professionals: Students observe and learn from experienced chefs and catering staff, gaining first hand knowledge of the industry.
• Engage in Real-World Tasks: Students perform tasks such as food prep, cleaning, and serving, building confidence and practical skills

Impact

Springfields have positive relationships with local post 16 colleges who can offer a range of qualifications that can lead our pupils into the Catering and Hospitality industry. The majority of our pupils that take the catering pathway go on to study that at college and we now have pupils from 3 years ago working in the Catering industry.
